Style at all Ages

Last night was a moment in styling.  A couple days a week I play nanny to an 8 year old little girl.  Last night her dad asked if I would mind taking her out school shopping.  Mind?  This is what I love to do.  Of course some day I would like to style more than 8 year olds, but shopping is shopping, and so we were off.  He suggested Old Navy; they were reported to be having a huge sale.  I went to pick up Miss K for the shopping extravaganza, but she was reluctant.  A girl who doesn't like to shop?!  Her dad and I assured her that I was fun to shop with and eventually I drug her out of the house and we were on our way.  Now, Miss K has her own little sense of style, I've seen enough of her to observe this.  Her style is a sort of mix of bohemian and sporty.  And, I must say, she does a pretty good job putting together her outfits, she has a bit of flair.  She also has an opinion on what she likes, however it's not always easy to get out of her.  For the first few items of clothing I displayed, she would stare blankly at me while I explained what about that particular item she might like.  With a bit of prodding on my part, she would eventually say "yes" or "no".  After a few rounds of this I explained to her that these were her clothes and she wasn't going to hurt my feelings if she didn't like what I picked up.  Finally she conceded and began speaking her opinion.  After many trips back and forth from the dressing room for more styles and new sizes, we ended up with quite an array of outfits.  Definitely with Old Navy, we catered to the sporty side of her style, but we ended up with some adorable striped cardigans, layering tanks, 3/4 sleeve tops and her first pair of skinny jeans (to which she would like to add a pair of vans or converse.  See, sporty.)  So today's post is not high fashion, but it's fashion nonetheless.  It just goes to show that style is everywhere, whether you are 8 or 80!
